Driver charged with murder in Thanksgiving wreck | News
Hoover Police say that they have charged a man with murder after a Thanksgiving weekend vehicle crash.
Kyle Gavin McCay, 31 of Hoover, has been charged with murder and first degree assault in the wreck. His bond totals $105,000. He turned himself into police Jan. 16 and was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
After investigating the crash, Hoover Police Traffic Investigators found evidence that "indicated impaired driving" by McCay the evening of Nov. 24. Police say McCay struck a 2012 Ford Escape, driven by 68-year-old John Ballinger of Hoover, when Ballinger was pulling out of the Publix parking lot to the parkway.
Ballinger was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital by a family member. He later passed away from his injuries. Police say an adult male passenger in McCay's vehicle was severely injured, which is why McCay wa also charged with assault.
