HOOVER, AL (WBRC)- Firefighters in Hoover spent the early morning hours battling an apartment fire at Autumn Ridge Apartments on Old Rocky Road.

The blaze started around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and investigators say the cause may have been lightning. According to residents, a loud bang was heard shortly before the fire started. The fire burned for around 30 minutes before firefighters got it under control.

Eighteen units were damaged in the blaze. Fire crews say most units on the second floor were completely destroyed. This leaves approximately 30 people without homes.

One firefighter was injured at the scene. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to fully recover from his injuries. A woman in a nearby building was treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities have not reported on whether or not any resident was injured in the fire.
